Coventry Blaze
A digital home worthy of Coventry's premier ice hockey team, delivered for the club we proudly sponsor.
The relationship between Coventry Blaze and RH Elite Services is built on a deep foundation of local community, shared values, and a lifelong passion for the sport.
As regular season ticket holders, our presence at the Skydome Arena extends far beyond standard business networking. It encompasses everything from attending tense Elite Ice Hockey League (EIHL) matches to our children's ice hockey lessons and our own family social skating sessions.
During the 2025 - 2026 season, we approached the club to offer our digital expertise as a marketing passion project, wanting to find tangible ways to support the team we hold so close to our hearts. From our very first conversations with the senior management team, it was clear that the club holds an exceptionally friendly and egalitarian culture.
While a clear corporate hierarchy naturally exists to run a professional sports club, every external partner and sponsor is treated as an equal peer. We immediately felt we were working alongside old friends.
The Evolution ofDigital Sovereignty
Our initial objective was to support the club's existing setup by introducing high-level data capture, implementing Meta Pixel reconfigurations, and designing custom UTM tracking structures to optimise their social media campaigns. To preserve operational continuity, RH Elite Services actively encouraged and proposed a collaborative framework where we could work alongside the club's existing web development partner. We believed a joint effort would allow the club to benefit from our specialised marketing analytics while maintaining their established development relationships.
Unfortunately, combining different technical frameworks created significant operational friction. Minor administrative updates, such as adapting cookie consent parameters for absolute GDPR compliance or installing simple tracking scripts, faced extensive delays. When our marketing integrations were ultimately restricted by the rigid nature of the existing platform, the senior management team was forced to look deeper into their digital infrastructure.
Through this review, the club discovered a critical structural limitation regarding their digital security. Under their legacy agreement, the club did not legally own their website - they were essentially renting their digital storefront. For a professional sports organisation that gives immense promotional support to its commercial partners, realising that years of digital growth were tied to a leased asset was a major turning point.
It became clear that to protect their brand, finances, and long-term commercial goals, the club needed to consolidate their entire digital presence into a unified system. To achieve true digital sovereignty, they needed to move away from a rented template and build a custom asset from the ground up.
Compressing a Six-MonthEnterprise Engineering Project
Building a modern web application that handles high-volume sports traffic, live league databases, and complex commercial tracking is a massive undertaking. In a standard agency environment, an enterprise software development project of this magnitude requires a meticulous six-month delivery pipeline.
However, professional sports clubs operate within rigid calendar constraints. Pulling off a complete infrastructure overhaul while a season is live can disrupt media communications, fan engagement, and ticket sales. To protect the club's operational stability, RH Elite Services committed to a compressed production schedule. Our engineering team managed to condense a traditional six-month development roadmap into a single off-season window, completely rebuilding, testing, and preparing the new system for launch between the end of one league season and the start of the next.
Technical Framework: Building aHigh-Performance Digital Arena
To replace a restrictive, legacy framework, our development team designed a fully customised application architecture built from scratch. The platform utilises a sophisticated engineering stack combining a robust Laravel backend engine with a highly fluid Inertia.js frontend integration. While traditional content management systems often rely on bloated, pre-made templates that slow down performance, writing clean code from scratch provides significant technical advantages for a professional sports brand:
The entire platform is engineered to meet Google's strictest performance benchmarks, ensuring near-instantaneous page load speeds and fluid transitions across desktop, tablet, and mobile viewports.
By utilising Inertia.js, the frontend behaves like a single-page application, updating content dynamically without forcing the user's browser to completely refresh the page when switching between news articles, rosters, or match reports.
Sports websites experience highly irregular traffic patterns, with massive, concentrated surges occurring during critical match days, peak transfer windows, or intense playoff runs. We implemented a flexible cloud hosting architecture and a premium Content Delivery Network (CDN) that automatically scales server resources to mitigate potential downtime during traffic spikes.
To ensure the club's hard-earned search engine authority was fully insulated during this massive transition, our team collaborated closely with the club. Together, we mapped out a meticulous content migration strategy and implemented strict 301 redirect protocols, cleaning out outdated data while protecting their visibility across search networks.
Data Synchronisation and theCommercial Funnel
A core requirement for the new digital asset was the deep integration of live sports data. The Coventry Blaze had utilised league data feeds in the past, but the legacy infrastructure was unable to leverage this asset to its full potential.
Our team engineered a dedicated backend service that syncs directly with the official Elite Ice Hockey League database API. To prevent constant, heavy database requests from slowing down the user experience, we developed an intelligent data caching logic. This custom-coded system automatically pulls real-time league standings, detailed player statistics, and live match data, displaying it across the site beautifully while maintaining lightning-fast page performance.
Beyond presentation, the system is designed to act as a powerful commercial funnel. In professional sports, a club's survival relies heavily on converting digital engagement into physical arena attendance. We integrated advanced tracking protocols designed to bridge the gap between the club's media efforts and their external ticketing platform, handled by Planet Ice. In layman's terms, this allows the club to track as much as possible of the customer journey from a single piece of content through to a match ticket purchase, giving them the commercial intelligence to see exactly what works and optimise their marketing expenditures accordingly.
Unprecedented Visibility:The Enterprise Analytics Dashboard
For years, sports clubs have operated with blind spots regarding their digital audiences. The newly developed system changes this dynamic entirely by providing Coventry Blaze with an unprecedented level of data tracking and marketing transparency.
Approved club administrators now have direct access to a comprehensive external data dashboard. This tracking framework delivers deep, practical insights that were previously completely unavailable to the club:
The system tracks exactly how many users land on the website from specific social media platforms and digital campaigns, showing the true ROI of their marketing efforts.
User Friction Analysis: By utilising advanced page scroll maps and on-site link analytics, the club can identify exact points of user resistance, seeing precisely where a fan loses interest or drops out of an informational page.
Visitor Session Replays: Staff can review anonymous user interaction replays to observe exactly how fans navigate the custom match-day reports, roster pages, and sponsor modules, allowing for continuous, data-driven layout refinements.
Defining a New Era ofCollaborative Support
The completion of this digital asset marks a complete shift in how Coventry Blaze manages its online presence, shifting from a limited infrastructure rental model to 100% legal ownership of a world-class web application.
As dual agency directors, Ryan Walker and Hollie Bevan wanted to ensure that the word "partner" meant something entirely different than it had in the past. To prove our absolute commitment to the club's long-term progress, we have provided direct, unrestricted communication channels to our team, alongside direct access to both agency owners outside of standard corporate working hours.
By removing third-party dependencies, engineering a custom Laravel engine, and installing an enterprise-grade data tracking infrastructure, we have given Coventry Blaze a digital home that matches the elite status of the club. We are incredibly proud to back the Blaze from the stands, on the ice, and behind the code, ensuring their commercial future is entirely secure and completely unlimited.
